aruti Suzuki has clocked cumulative sales of 1 million CNG vehicles. The company started selling CNG vehicles in 2010 and currently its portfolio comprises of 9 vehicles namely Alto, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Dzire, Ertiga, Eeco, Super Carry and Tour-S. Maruti Suzuki S-CNG vehicles are conceptualized, designed, developed and rigorously tested at the brand’s world-class research & development (R&D) facility before they are made available to the customers. Maruti Celerio CNG has the highest mileage of 35.60 km/kg in India.
Maruti Suzuki CNG vehicles come fitted with dual interdependent ECUs with an intelligent injection system. They boast of a re-tuned chassis, suspension & braking system for all kinds of terrains. The CNG vehicles are equipped with a microswitch that ensures that the vehicle is off and doesn’t start while refuelling. Thanking customers for supporting Maruti Suzuki S-CNG cars, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “We are humbled by the appreciation and positive response received by our S-CNG offerings. As a Company, our aim is to offer safe, reliable, clean, technologically advanced and environment friendly vehicles to our customers. Our S-CNG range is specifically designed, developed and manufactured at our facilities to suit the Indian driving conditions.”
The stainless steel CNG pipes get patented ferrule joints for corrosion resistance with a leak-proof design. Moreover, the advanced dual solenoid system is in place to ensure additional safety in case of gas leakage. It auto-cuts fuel during the gas leak and releases high-pressure CNG directly into the atmosphere. He added, “Today, there are already over 3,700 CNG stations making CNG more accessible to people. With the Government's target to reach 10,000 CNG stations across the country in the next few years, we expect the demand for CNG vehicles to remain robust. As a technology, CNG will play a bigger and significant role in reducing carbon emission of a large volume of passenger vehicles.”
For added safety, there is also the non-return valve mechanism which prevents backflow of high-pressure CNG gas and eliminates chances of any leakage. The CNG filler filter protects the CNG system from corrosion & dust particles. The vehicles feature an auto change-over switch which instantly switches between CNG and petrol modes. The NGV receptacle special nozzle assists in faster and safer CNG refuelling while the precision fuel level indicator is also there to let customers track vehicle’s fuel level. The company has been working in sync with the Government of India’s objective of reduction in oil imports by enhancing the share of natural gas in the energy basket of the country from 6.2% presently to 15% by 2030.
